Basic Computer Terminology:
Another wildly vague question on Quora. YOU MUST SPECIFY. What operating system are you focused on here. Windows and Apples o/s icons are very different, and Android is different again. Why is it that people get on Quora and not understand how to. Lisa was an advanced GUI for the time as it had movable 'Desk Accessories' (early Widgets), drop-down menus and folder based directories. You can see the icons are not much different from the Xerox, except for the size and single pixel outlines, and the use of the computer as the preferences icon (it's now common to use cogs). In computing, an icon is a pictogram or ideogram displayed on a computer screen in order to help the user navigate a computer system. The icon itself is a quickly comprehensible symbol of a software tool, function, or a data file, accessible on the system and is more like a traffic sign than a detailed illustration of the actual entity it represents. It can serve as an electronic hyperlink. Tapping this icon displays the screen to select a function (print, save, or scan) supported by the USB memory. Indicates that a USB connection is disabled because a nonstandard USB memory device is connected to this machine. This icon is referred to as a 'list icon' in the manual. To activate the function that corresponds to the symbol, press and hold the Fn key while pressing the function key. See section Keys with icons or symbols for more information. Consult the software's help menu or support site to find out which keys are supported, and the associated functions for those keys.
